Rick Brown Photography

There are a few surprising reasons why I enjoy photography.

First, it’s about control over time. A photograph freezes a single moment that would normally disappear. That sense of capturing something permanent out of something fleeting is really satisfying. It lets you hold onto emotions, light, expressions—things that usually pass too quickly.

Second, there’s focus and simplicity. Unlike video, still photography strips everything down to one frame. Your brain gets to study details—composition, lighting, textures—without distraction.

And then there is creative expression without pressure. You don’t need a whole production setup. One image can tell a story, create a mood, or express an idea. It’s a very accessible form of art.

Our Calabogie - The Best Kept Secret!

Known for outstanding natural beauty and unmatched diversity of 4-season outdoor recreational activities, Calabogie is quickly becoming Eastern Ontario’s destination of choice for outdoor recreation… There is just so much more to explore here!

To people in large urban centres, Calabogie, assuming they’ve even heard of it, is seen as a small rural community somewhere in the Ottawa Valley. Having been raised, educated and spending my entire business career in the Toronto area before retiring to Calabogie, I often return to Toronto where friends frequently ask, “Whatever possessed you to leave the big city for a small sleepy rural community; why would you do that?”

My response ……. A short email with just 3 words, “This is why!” along with the link to a short video I put together. No need for further comment.
